Sustainable urban transformation Arter Quarter, Tallinn (EE)

The Estonian capital Tallinn is growing upwards, which is necessary given modern sustainable urban planning concepts. In the near-zero energy building of the Arter Quarter, Geberit Sovent creates more room.

The Arter Quarter provides more living space in Tallinn. It comprises three main buildings with 28, 15, and 9 storeys, as well as a central connecting building with an underground parking garage. It is regarded as a new meeting point in Tallinn's city centre, combining residential areas, modern office spaces, dining and service areas and a city park - all sustainably developed. This follows the urban planning concept of the 15-Minute-City, in which most daily needs and services should be reachable within 15 minutes.

“With this project, we are creating a lot of residential and work space on a small footprint,“ says Allar Õunapuu project manager at the construction company Merko. “For us, it's a given to build sustainably according to the most modern standards. The Arter Quarter has been designed as a near-zero energy building and is BREEAM Excellent certified.“ In order to achieve zero energy, geothermal piles are used, and all the building materials are chosen to be of the highest quality.

Innovation for more space

The available space is maximised both in the city and in the high-rise buildings. Geberit Sovent fittings and Silent-db20 pipes ensure a soundproofed and hydraulically optimised, space-saving wastewater installation.

“In the shower area, we have just a floor depth of twelve centimetres for the wastewater,“ says Allar Õunapuu. “Only Geberit Setaplano shower surfaces are suitable for this installation height.“

Forward-thinking urban development

The Arter Quarter is more than just another high-rise project. It represents the future of urban construction and development, not just in Tallinn.

Allar Õunapuu says: “For the construction industry, it makes sense to use the available space wisely and to build as sustainably as possible.“ The project shows how to bring together a variety of stakeholders for modern urban development and environmental awareness. “This is how livable and future-proof urban spaces are created.“
